You are never too old to be bold ladies!

Let's talk about bucket list stuff here for a moment.  We all have something on a list in a drawer somewhere or just locked away in our hearts waiting for just the right time to take action on it.  Some of us have a big thing!  Mine became going to Spain and revisiting my creativity in another country.

Picture this!  It was late last summer, and I had been talking with a friend about dreams and desires (a conversation I often have with people), and I blurted out "If I won the lottery, I would travel the world, create cool furniture using vintage and recycled local materials and blog."  I paused as I said it.

Really? "Did I need to win the lottery to do something like this?"  I didn't think I was asking for too much here.  Was it possible that after years of floundering from a fearful place I had finally gotten to my core idea of happiness?  This God sent clarity got me thinking about the possibilities immediately.  It was honestly hard to think of much anything else.  The thought overtook me with curiosity and wonder.

As soon as I began putting my energy into this idea, I saw a post from a film-maker friend of mine on Facebook that read "Travel Blogger needed.  Long-term possibilities."  What?  Does the universe work this quickly?  Without hesitation, I wrote him an email, and we met for coffee the following morning.

I was fascinated with his project, but he too was at the very beginning of an idea and in no position to offer me a job like I hoped.  However, during my conversation with him, I found myself analyzing my life and realizing that I had stopped living it at some point.  Who was driving this rig?  My creative business had been on a long pause while I painfully down-sized through all the things I accumulated over the years.  After years of collecting and growing my creative spaces, I had reached the point of no return and had to start downsizing it all.  Somehow in the process of this torment, I also got suckered into finding a "job" to have responsible things like health insurance and pay my bills.  I was operating out of a place of fear instead of abundance, and it had taken me to disastrous places in my life.

But now.  Something had changed.  This new idea!  It was like the heavens opened up and I finally saw the sun again!

I felt a spark.  A glimmer of hope.  The excitement was buckling in my knee caps.  Could I consider revisiting my creativity in another country and blogging from the road?  My mind was spinning at a thousand miles a minute processing this fantastic idea.  It was like the narrator from "A Christmas Story" had just entered into my racing thoughts and wanted to begin telling my story and boy, did I know that this was about to be the best one yet!

Hello, my name is Jeanne and I'm a recovering Maximalist!

Hello, my name is Jeanne Connolly, and I am a recovering Maximalist from Denver. Seriously, it's true!  I am a lover of creative things, a dream chaser, a lover of life, and a "mostly" impractical pursuer of ridiculously awesome adventures.  I have many inspired stories to tell, but this one is my recent favorite.   It's a story about making your own happy, even when it feels like the weight of the world is stacked up against you to do so.  My hope is that this short story will inspire you to put your dreaming hat on, too! ESPECIALLY if you are over 40 and think you are too old to be bold!  I am here to tell you that the road less traveled is much more interesting after 40, sister girls.  Downsizing it all and making a ballsy leap of faith in a more seasoned stage of your life is just about one of the best gifts you can give to your soul!  Can I get an amen?

The very shortened "pre-travel" backstory goes like this.  Over the past few years, I had been moving further and further into what appeared to be a permanent state of "burnout" as a creative person and feeling less and less enthusiastic to sustain a creative living as a single woman with an unpredictable income.  Burning the candle at both ends seemed to be my daily mantra, and not surprisingly so, I started losing sight of the all those little things that truly got me excited on a daily basis.  One of those things was travel.   I had long ignored it in pursuit of my creative dreams of being an artist.  Of course, when I mention travel, I do feel the need to explain that I am speaking about life-changing cultural traveling to lands far, far away.  The type that gets your hidden wanderlust dreaming in overdrive and your weary spirit rebooted all over again!

I had done some fairly obnoxious collecting as an artist back home.  The obsessive kind amounting to the "motherload" of all vintage fabric collections.  I had been increasing the size of my art studios and storage spaces at the speed of light for almost a straight decade.  Financially supporting this growing need for space was quite honestly becoming debilitating as a free spirit.  I thought artists were supposed to be free and light-hearted!  I was closer to booking myself on the next season of Hoarders.

I recently came across this hysterical proof of the madness I am talking about. It's a compilation of a couple of short clips from a video I was trying to make a few years back to promote my furniture.

So what the hell happened here?  When did all the things I was happily hoarding become more of a burden than a joy to have in my life?

I was obviously in need of some time to rethink the kind of life I wanted to create for myself going forward.  I was seeing it going in the direction of a more MOBILE wanderlust kind of thing. I didn't know what that looked like yet, but I knew that it would start with a serious overhaul of my things and a dusting off of that second passport I got from my Irish grandpa from Belfast (a bucket list item was living in Europe one day).  Maybe that day was now, and it was time to check some new things off my bucket list?  I felt like I needed to start paying closer attention to the new dreams that were calling me to hit the open road.  I began dreaming of this idea so clearly that I could taste it, smell it, see it and feel it with the very essence of my soul.

So, it all began from that moment.  The thought created the action.  It was already a plan in motion (unannounced to me).  I only wish I could have known then; how easy my new dreams were about to unfold.  This fellow chicas is called manifesting.  The story here has the law of attraction smothered all over it like hot fudge on a giant sundae!  More on that to come, but how's this story going for you so far?    I'm going to have to leave you for now with this cliff hanger intro and hope that you'll sign up for the mailing list to follow along for the continuation of my soul inspiring, solo female traveling adventure.
